Volunteer
Why people volunteered
The project created many opportunities for local people to get involved and make a difference to the landscape they called home. Activities suited every age and level of commitment, from recording species to helping with the creation of new wildlife areas.
Some of the benefits volunteers enjoyed included:
- learning more about the wildlife living in their local area
- meeting people in the community with shared interests and values
- spending time outdoors in the fresh air
- doing something positive for the local environment
- contributing to scientific research by increasing knowledge about the biodiversity of the Fens
Support for volunteers
Everyone who chose to take part received training and support from the NLOW project team, along with access to resources and information to help them in their role. The project also encouraged conversations on social media, where volunteers could share experiences and keep up to date with what was happening in their area.
