NLOW Events Update – Summer 2024
It’s been a busy few months for Cambridgeshire ACRE’s ‘New Life on the Old West’ project, with various events taking place around Cambridgeshire. Let’s see what they have been up to, and look ahead to find out what is available in the months to come.
‘Well-Kept but Wild’ took place at Haddenham Closed Cemetery in the second half of May, with speakers from ranging backgrounds offering advice on how to increase biodiversity in churchyards. Talks from David Chandler, RHS Flower Show award-winning Garden Designer Jeni Cairns and Head of Church Buildings Geoffrey Hunter gave insight on many topics. Attendees took home with them a plethora of biodiversity knowledge, along with a due to the abundance of picnic food present!
NLOW kicked off June with their ‘Dragons, Damsels and Nature for Wellbeing’ event, taking attendees on a guided walk of the UK’s biggest wetland reserves with David Chandler. Our Natural Heritage Officer, Karen, spoke on how taking time out in nature can improve health and wellbeing also.
In July, the NLOW project hosted an ‘Aquatic Plant ID’ workshop at Greenwillows Associates, with expert ecologists leading the tour and teaching attendees on how to recognise some common aquatic ant species. From this, attendees were able to assist the project with monitoring the aquatic environments in the NLOW area.
Finally, just last week, came the first of two ‘Open for Nature’ days taking place in Little Thetford. You can read all about it here.
The last few months have been busy, yet productive for New Life on the Old West, with many more events to come in the next few months. Be sure to keep an eye out on the NLOW news page and stay updated on our social media platforms located below.
