24th May – Voices of the Fen – A Council of All Beings @ Haddenham Arts Centre
Nanna and Granfer! bring the bairns to an intriguing workshop – Voices of the Fen – A Council of All Beings
11am-3.30pm
This gently-paced workshop invites children, elders and everyone in between to take on the voices of other beings – from barn owl to beetle, fen flower to field vole.
Since their inception in the late ‘70s, Council of All Beings meetings have helped countless thousands of people around the globe give voice to the voiceless (1984 John Seed, Joanna Macy, Arne Naess–The Work that Reconnects)
During our time together you will be invited to step aside from your human identity and speak on behalf of another life-form, to speak of your concerns and the challenges you face, and to be witnessed and received by the ‘two-leggeds’…the humans
The event will be outdoors in the garden spaces and sometimes under a marquee at Haddenham Arts Centre so please do come prepared for the weather on the day
The process is eloquent with NLOW’s Karen gently guiding you to go off into the garden and find a quiet moment to be ‘chosen’ by an other-than-human being, then we will make a simple mask together, of our beings (all materials provided – absolutely no artistic prowess needed!)
After lunch (please bring your own packed lunch) we shall gather round an open fire to ask…
What is Befalling our Earth and our Lives?
No performance, no pressure just a gently amazing space to listen and speak (only if you want) on behalf of the natural world.
Teas and coffees will be provided throughout the day but please bring your own lunch.
All ages welcome, in fact – a full range of ages preferred….great multi-generational activity.
